I created this brand with one guiding objective in mind—to provide an innovative uniform that not only makes you look and feel good but inspires you to perform in a way that will bring light into the lives of each and every patient.
With over a decade of work as a healthcare professional with passion for emergency medicine, Nigerian-American Nurse Practitioner, Valerie Afam realized quickly in her healthcare career that the medical apparel worn during long 12 hour shifts would have negative impacts on performance due to boxy, unflattering, and uncomfortable fitting. Valerie wanted to create a brand that was remarkable in fit, function, and design.
As healthcare professionals, we are often encountering patients in what they would consider one of the darkest times of their lives. ANWU means “light” in Igbo, a native Nigerian language. This brand was inspired by our founder’s need to bring even the smallest amount of light and positivity to each patient encounter. To those who may already be experiencing joy/light in their healthcare encounter, the goal is to contribute even more positivity.
